Add a Moast widget to an older Shopify theme
Updated 2 months ago
If your Shopify theme does not support app blocks, Moast detects this automatically and gives you an embed code to install your widget instead.
Create your widget
If you have not already built your widget, open the Widgets tab in the Moast dashboard and click New widget. Choose your widget type, placement, and source, then click Create. You can learn more about the full creation flow in How to Use the New Widget Editor.
Publish and get the embed code
When you are ready to make the widget live, click Add to theme in the preview toolbar.
In the Add widget to theme modal, confirm where the widget will appear.
Moast checks your theme compatibility. You will see a message that says Checking theme compatibility…
If your theme does not support app blocks, the modal switches to the embed code view. You will see a message like Your theme doesn't support app blocks. Copy the embed code below and paste it directly into your theme to display the widget.
Click Copy Liquid code. This is the recommended option because it loads faster. If your theme does not support Liquid, click Copy HTML code instead.
Click Open themes to go to your Shopify theme editor, or open your Shopify admin in a new tab and go to Online Store > Themes.
Paste the copied code into a Custom HTML section on the page where you want the widget to appear. If you are adding it to a product template, you can also paste it directly into the theme file.
Save your theme changes.
Liquid code loads faster than HTML. Only use the HTML option if your theme does not support Liquid.
What to do next
After you paste the code and save, open your store to check that the widget appears where you placed it. You can return to the Moast editor anytime to update the widget settings or media.
