Customize accessibility text in your widgets
Updated 2 months ago
The accessibility section in Widget translations & languages lets you edit the hidden labels that screen readers use to describe your widgets to blind and low-vision shoppers. You can translate these labels into any language you publish in Shopify, or tweak the wording to match your brand voice.
Why this matters
Screen readers read aloud everything a shopper cannot see. When a widget has clear labels like Previous slide or Close player, shoppers who rely on assistive technology can navigate your videos and carousels just as easily as everyone else. Good accessibility text also helps your store meet legal requirements in many countries and improves trust with all shoppers.
These labels are invisible on the page itself. They are only announced by screen readers and other assistive tools.
Where to find the accessibility section
Open the Moast dashboard.
Click Settings.
Select Widget translations & languages.
Choose a language from the dropdown at the top.
Scroll down to the Accessibility section.
What you can change
Each field controls what a screen reader says when a shopper focuses on part of a widget. Here is what the labels do in plain English:
Previous slide / Next slide β announces the arrow buttons that move through a carousel.
Stories carousel / Media carousel β tells the shopper what kind of widget they are browsing.
Video progress β describes the progress bar while a video is playing.
Toggle view mode β explains the button that switches between widget layouts.
Close player β labels the button that closes the fullscreen video player.
User submitted image / User submitted video β describes photos and videos that came from your customers.
Media player β identifies the region of the page where videos play.
Autoplays when visible β warns shoppers that a video will start automatically as soon as it scrolls into view.
Video thumbnail β describes the small preview image before a video opens.
Click to view / Click to open in player β tells shoppers what will happen when they tap a video or thumbnail.
Image / Video β announces whether a piece of content is a photo or a video.
Item of total β reads out the shopperβs position inside a carousel, for example Item 2 of 5.
Toggle mute / Mute / Unmute β labels the sound on and off controls.
Powered by Moast (opens in new tab) β describes the Moast link so shoppers know it will open in a new browser tab.
How to edit the labels
In the Accessibility section, click the field you want to change.
Type the new text.
Click Save. The new wording is sent to your widgets right away.
Translating for multiple languages
If your store sells in more than one language, edit the accessibility text for each language separately. Choose the language from the dropdown at the top of the page, update the fields, and save. If a language is missing from the dropdown, add and publish it in Shopify admin > Settings > Languages first, then return to Moast.
Multi-language support is available on the Pro plan. Start your 14-day free trial to translate your widgets.
What to do next
You can also customize the visible text that shoppers see in the product slide-out. See Customizing text in your product slide-out for the buttons and labels that appear when someone adds a product to their cart.
To change the language of the Moast dashboard itself, read How to change the language of your Moast dashboard and widgets.
